New Florida Landscapes

These photographs describe the topography of The Sunshine State, its juxtapositions of concrete and flora, and make evident the effects of corporate driven growth on Florida’s natural environment. Its changing tropical landscape offers viewers a chance to consider the political and social complexities of a simultaneously iconic and familiar place. One likely cannot help but acknowledge our vanishing wilds in light of non-descript malls, cookie-cut housing, and chain restaurants, and consider the irony of losing the land that drew people to Florida only to find a homogenous place that is contrary to the promise of Paradise.
